pET pREPAREDNESS plAN
When disaster strikes, we immediately tend to think of helping ourselves, family and friends get through it safely. While we put ourselves and others into perspective, we should also think of our pets. To ease the difficulty on how to keep our pets safe and sound during disasters, we created a plan just for you!
Step 1: Always have your pet wearing a collar or accessory with current information on it. In an event of separation, the current information on your pet will play a huge part in reunification. Also, microchipping is another way to track down your pet at any moment.
Step 2: Confirm with your pet’s veterinarian that he or she is current on any shots or vaccines. Keep a folder or binder with all of your pet's medical records to ensure this step is complete.
Step 3: Stock up on food and treats for your pet. Don’t forget water and bowls your pet eats out of. *Did you know dogs can eat human food? Below is a chart of what dogs can digest! Lastly, don’t forget a manual can opener if you are stocking up on canned food.
Step 4: Invest in a medical kit just for your pet. Or, create your own! Medical kits are great to have on hand, because anything can happen. Below is a chart of some items you can add.
Step 5: Have current photos of your pet. Updated photos will help you identify your pet easily.
Step 6: Create a list of people or shelters that can house your pet in case you are unable to do so. Follow up with family, friends and community pet sitters to know your options.
All in all, we at Zoomies wish you well on your way to create the perfect preparedness plan for your fur-baby. We'd love to hear how it went. Please tell us on your next visit to Zoomies!
Love,
Zoomies Crew
